"I Am The Motorcycle"

You might be cool, but never as cool as Salvador Dalí sitting on a Honda CB chopper in the middle of his extravagant hotel room!

Salvador Dalí was a 20th-century surrealist painter whose work often depicts dreamlike worlds and states of mind. The surrealist approach to bikes would look something like this: I don't do motorcycles, I am the motorcycle. On October 24th, 1973, Salvador Dalí had a Honda CB chopper rolled up to his room so he could be inspired by it, sleep next to it, become it.

Dalí was a thriftless fellow. He made and spent millions. He and his wife Gala pursued an enormously flamboyant and lavish lifestyle wherever they stayed. As pictured here, in the winter months, Dalí lived in the old Royal Suite Alphonse XIII at Le Meurice the exclusive palace hotel overlooking Les Jardin de Tuileries.

Notice, in this iconic picture taken by photographer, Ulf Andersen, Dalí doesn't let go of his cane when posing on the Honda CB. It isn’t certain if Dali actually rode a motorcycle. When wanderlust struck, he mostly drove his Rolls Royce Phantom 11 filled with 500 kilos of cauliflowers from Spain to Paris…
